Moscow, Russia — Russia’s capital Moscow and parts of the surrounding region came under a major drone attack, with city officials describing it as one of the largest aerial attacks targeting the capital.
Hundreds of drones were reportedly launched toward Moscow and nearby areas. Russian authorities said that air-defense systems intercepted and destroyed most of the incoming drones, although several locations were still affected.
One residential apartment building was reportedly damaged, while an oil refinery was also targeted. In Sofiino, a settlement outside Moscow, residents described a powerful explosion that caused damage to buildings and sent glass and debris into the streets.
Local residents said emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and restricted access to affected areas. Reports indicated that people were wounded, while authorities were assessing the extent of the casualties and property damage.
Air Strikes Continue Across Russia and Ukraine
The latest attack comes as aerial strikes between Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify.
Ukrainian authorities have reported Russian strikes against around 30 locations over the weekend. Several people were reportedly killed, including children, according to Ukrainian officials.
